Choosing strip lighting

Strip or neon rope?

A standard strip is thin and hides easily in a channel or behind a lip, throwing light onto a surface without being seen. Neon rope is thicker and lights evenly along its whole length with no visible LEDs, so it reads as a continuous line — better when the light itself is the design element.

Measure the run before you order

Measure the full path the strip will take, including corners, and add a little slack. It's easier to tuck away extra length than to come up short halfway along a wall.

Surface preparation matters more than people think

Adhesive backing needs a clean, dry, fully cured surface. Wipe the run down first, press firmly along the whole length, and give freshly painted walls a few weeks before mounting. Most strips that fall down were stuck to dust.

Corners and cuts

Strips bend along their length but not sideways. Use corner connectors to turn a right angle rather than folding the strip, and only cut at the marked cut points.

App and voice control

Strip lighting runs on the Smart Life app, free on Android and iOS. Colours, brightness, scenes and modes are controlled from your phone, with Alexa and Google Assistant support for voice.
